Rockwool vs glasswool on a façade: which one we actually specify

Both are mineral wool. They are not interchangeable on a Hungarian ETICS façade or in a joist bay. Pick the construction first.

Rockwool — when the wall has to take render and fire

Stone wool holds a façade render system and takes a higher fire conversation. It is heavier, usually dearer per m², and it is the honest choice on a multi-storey elevation that the fire officer will read. We do not pretend Starflex is a façade render board.

Glasswool — when you are filling a bay

ODE Starflex at λ 0.039 W/mK is what we put in attics and light partitions. It is lighter, faster to cut, and the EKR attic pack we already ship is 25 cm of this wool plus BBarrier foils. EUCEB and the Hungarian DoP travel with it.

The actual difference, without a table of invented lambdas

• Fire and rendered façade → rockwool system, with the system holder’s ETA, not a loose slab from a blog.
• Attic, loft, metal stud → glasswool. Starflex is the SKU we have on the import programme.
• Plinth / ground contact → XPS (ODE Isıpan in our list), not either wool.
• Acoustic party wall → read the system. Often rockwool. Sometimes a glasswool cavity. We will not guess from this page.
