Type “EKR insulation” into a search bar today and several old articles and some AI answers still say attic insulation in Hungary can be completely free. In autumn 2026 that is no longer true. The national free attic programme has closed, and anyone postponing the job while waiting for it can easily pay for another heating season under an uninsulated ceiling.
We are writing it down once, plainly, because many of the questions we get still start from the old situation.
What EKR is, and why it is not “free insulation”
Hungary’s Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme (EKR) is an obligation on energy traders: they must put part of their turnover into energy efficiency. A lot of free attic insulation came out of it. That round has closed. Proposals to rework the rules could change things from 1 January 2027 at the earliest, and nothing is final yet – more on that here.
We are not a HEM partner, we do not write grant applications, and we do not promise HEM eligibility. If someone promises that in 2026, ask them in writing which programme and which deadline it is based on.
What attic floor insulation costs now
Our paid, turnkey offer starts at HUF 12,700/m² gross (HUF 10,000 net + 27% VAT), nationwide. That covers standard material, delivery and installation.
For a 100 m² attic floor that is roughly HUF 1,270,000 gross. Clearing the space, repairs, walkable boarding and difficult access are quoted after a survey. The final price and technical scope are fixed in a written offer after the on-site survey – not in a phone estimate.

What goes on the ceiling
A vapour barrier at the bottom, 25 cm of glass wool (λ 0.039) on top of it, and a breathable membrane above. The glass wool is ODE Starflex, supplied with our partners. This base build-up is not a walkable storage surface; if you store things in the attic, that needs its own discussion at the survey.
We check the ceiling, moisture and existing insulation on site. If we see leaks or mould, that has to be fixed first – we do not insulate over it.
Where the material comes from, and how long it takes
EuConX brings factory material from Türkiye to Hungary: factory sourcing, quality control, customs and transport in one hand. A truck from Türkiye to Hungary usually takes 3–5 days, about 5 days on average. That is why we schedule with a date after the survey, not “as soon as possible”.
We do not promise faster transit than that. If someone quotes 1–2 days for Turkish material, ask whether they mean stock in a warehouse.
Three questions for any quote
If you ask others for a quote too, ask these three: how many centimetres of wool, with what lambda value; is there a vapour barrier underneath and a breathable layer on top; and what is not included in the price. Without straight answers to these, the price per square metre is not comparable.
