The short answer
ODE’s Starflex range includes blanket/roll, board and pipe-insulation products. They are not interchangeable just because they share a brand. The manufacturer lists λD ranges of 0.032–0.044 W/mK for blanket forms and 0.031–0.037 W/mK for boards; each range covers multiple variants, not one selected SKU. Pipe sections serve a separate HVAC application.
Start with the form
A blanket may suit flexible infill or continuous flat applications. A board may be designed for a defined layer requiring a more stable shape. A pipe section is selected around pipe diameter, operating temperature, condensation risk and outer protection. The exact intended use and installation limits should come from the technical sheet for the chosen item, not from a family name.
Why lambda is not enough
λD is the declared thermal conductivity, but it does not determine the performance of a whole assembly. Thickness, continuity, fixing, joints, vapour control, mechanical protection and facing also matter. Fire reaction can vary with the exact product and facing, so it should not be generalized across the Starflex family. Check the current DoP/TDS for the quoted code.
Build a comparable enquiry
For pipe products, state outer diameter, operating conditions, thickness and jacket. For flat surfaces, state the installation location, form, thickness, dimensions, facing and target performance. Request the current declaration, packaging quantity, pallet dimensions and delivery schedule. Any substitution should be reviewed by the designer or system owner. Compare like with like
A quotation comparison should use consistent units. Blanket and board packs can cover different areas or volumes; pipe sections are specified by diameter and length. Even a shared thickness does not make two products equivalent if their form, facing, tolerances or intended uses differ. Link the technical table to the exact item code in the offer.
Operating temperature and surface conditions also matter for pipe insulation. On cold lines, condensation risk and treatment of joints should be reviewed with the system designer. For flat surfaces, gaps and continuity affect the installed layer. These are general selection checks, not a substitute for manufacturer instructions or project design. If substitution is proposed, obtain written acceptance for the exact assembly before ordering.
Match the product form to its task
Glass-wool blanket suits flexible infill and some flat applications; board is used in defined wall or roof layers; pipe sections insulate HVAC pipes. Thermal conductivity and fire reaction depend on form, thickness, facing and exact declaration.
