At a glance
Hungary’s July construction figures point to a cautious market, but they are not one single demand index. KSH reported a 12.2% year-on-year fall in raw construction output (also −12.2% after working-day adjustment), and a 4.6% month-on-month decline in seasonally and working-day-adjusted output. New contracts were down 24.8% year on year, while the contract stock at the end of July was 0.8% higher. Production over January–July was 2.7% lower than a year earlier.
Reading the output measures
The annual figure compares July 2026 with July 2025. The monthly figure compares the seasonally and working-day-adjusted series with June. These answer different questions and use different adjustment bases. The January–July result is cumulative. It should not be mistaken for a single month or for a forward projection.
Contracts tell a separate story
The volume of newly concluded contracts in July was 24.8% below the same month a year earlier. The value of the order stock at July’s end was 0.8% above the year-earlier level. New contracts measure incoming work during a period; order stock describes work remaining to be completed. A slightly larger stock does not ensure that near-term output will rise. Project timing, financing, composition and execution all matter.
What buyers can take from this
Use national statistics for context, not as a price list or a forecast for a specific site. For phased work, distinguish firm quantities from optional or later-stage demand. Check current supplier availability, specification, storage, delivery dates and payment terms against the actual project. See the separate analysis of Q2 producer prices and H1 output volume; its periods and indices differ from this July dashboard.
Source and method
KSH published the July release on 14 September 2026. This summary labels raw/working-day-adjusted annual output, seasonally and working-day-adjusted monthly output, annual new-contract and end-month stock comparisons, and the January–July cumulative total separately. Statistical revisions are possible; check the newest release before making a decision.
Read timing, not just direction
Construction series can be affected by calendar, working-day and seasonal patterns. Do not substitute a month-on-month change for the year-on-year comparison or for a cumulative period. A seasonally adjusted monthly fall describes movement from the previous month; the annual measure compares matching months; the January–July figure aggregates part of the year. KSH may revise statistical series, so revisit its tables and methodological notes when a later release becomes available.
For a buyer, the useful follow-up is to identify which signal affects the live project: the flow of new orders, the schedule of work already contracted, or market prices for materials. They require different evidence and decision thresholds. Sector data can frame risks, but it cannot replace a site-specific programme and current supplier confirmations.
Four July signals, four comparison bases
Raw and working-day-adjusted July output fell 12.2% year on year. Seasonally and working-day-adjusted output fell 4.6% from June. New contracts fell 24.8% year on year; end-July contract stock rose 0.8%; January–July output fell 2.7% year on year.
